San Francisco Choirs to Sing to Song Set to Obama Victory Speech
Aretha Franklin will sing "My Country Tis of Thee" at Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony, while the San Francisco Boys and Girls Choirs wiill perform a half dozen numbers, including a new piece set to the words of Obama's victory speech. Entitled "An Exhortation," the Obama-inspired song was put together by San Francisco composer David Conte and features the signature phrase "Yes, We Can!"
The choirs also will sing "America the Beautiful," "An American Hymn," "Hymn to Freedom," "Give Us Hope", and "I Hear America Singing," the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies said. The United States Army Herald Trumpets will play "Ruffles and Flourishes" and the United States Marine Band will play "Hail Columbia."
During the prelude, the Marine Band will play these pieces. We're particularly delighted about the choice of John Philip Souza's "Washington Post March."
