The Happiest Place on Earth
For Iraq and Afghanistan veterans -- and their families -- the Shades of Green resort inside the DisneyWorld complex provides just that. The New York Times reports on how this resort is set up to provide a much-needed and much-discounted passport for America's military families to the Magic Kingdom. Disney deserves a round of applause for its efforts here, especially the way it has moved to reduce the cost of tickets for military families and to make this military facility a part of the Disney experience.

There is another great MWR deal lesser known than Shades of Green. In Germany, there is Edelweiss. It is an all services MWR facility resort in the mountains of Garmisch, about an hour south of Munich in Bavaria. The place is incredible.
I am not sure if the deal still exists (I didn't see it on the website), but I went there on my 2 weeks of leave from Iraq. For service members on leave just before, prior or during a deployment, it wa only about $70 (50% off) a night which included two buffet meals vouchers for dinner and breakfast. It was a fantastic deal.
