Keeping it Hot

Former Virginia offensive coordinator Chris Colbeck used to tell his players to "keep the ball hot," as in, keep the ball moving. Pass and cut, pass and cut, don't hold onto the ball for too long. So it is with our Friday morning installment of TFBO2F. "If You're Watching" will come later today. For now, we have a quick trip around the local colleges.

The 4,000-members of the Brigade of Midshipmen will attend the game en masse against Johns Hopkins tomorrow at noon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Brigade will march to the stadium but will not march-on per se. It is rare for the Brigade to attend a lacrosse game, but it should make for a special atmosphere...

Patrick Stevens of the Washington Times will have a similar-looking phone bill to ours. We both found out this morning that Bud Petit will start in goal for the Cavaliers (10-2) against Dartmouth (5-6) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Klockner Stadium. Petit left a 19-9 loss to Duke in the third quarter with a hip injury.

"It looked worse on film than what we thought it had" on the sideline, Coach Dom Starsia said. "Bud is probably sucking it up a little bit. He's entering the last month of his college career, and he knows it."...

Georgetown sophomore MF Scott Kocis returned to action last week against Loyola. Kocis was expected to be a starter but broke his collarbone in the preseason...

And Maryland freshman A Travis Reed will play tomorrow against Penn. Reed (18 goals, 5 assists) was suspended for the past two games following a violation of the university's student-athlete code of conduct.
