Combat Prejudice to Get the Promotion You Want

Are you being kept from advancing to more senior roles because of your race or gender? Ascending the corporate ladder is tough for all contenders, but women and minorities often face especially great challenges. One strategy is to look beyond skin color or gender yourself and focus on green. No matter how committed a company is to building a diverse workforce, its No. 1 business priority will always be making money. Help your firm generate measurable business results--whether those take the form of increased revenue, lower costs, or both -- you'll gain a clear competitive edge over rivals for that promotion you want. Focus on building strong relationships with key influencers--no one gets ahead without support. And focus on building your own personal brand and creating demand for your unique gifts and abilities.
