Technology-based change keeps coming at us at the speed of the closest WiFi router, but not that much has changed around our homes. Well, technology has changed life in the family room. We have hi-def television with streaming movies. Interactive video games like the Wii. And Skype gives me free face-to-face communication around the world through my laptop. Yes, the tech revolution has made its way to my couch....and pretty much stopped there.
Sawbuck Realty's announcement that they've launched a web site that taps into your phone's GPS function to provide you-are-here real estate listings searches grabbed my attention. So I grabbed my BlackBerrry and headed toward the window, so I'd get maximum reception for my tryout.
High on my list of post-recession (and I mean the real recession, not the statistical one that allegedly is finished) home improvements is to install a stacked, front-loading washer and dryer combo upstairs near my bedrooms. But, as I've written before, noise and vibration (not to mention flood risk) still worry me. My concerns are hardly unfounded, according to the just-released February issue of Consumer Reports. They tested 68 washer models--and found a few problems.
Well, the Thanksgiving-through-New Year's holiday marathon is over. All that's left is to un-decorate the house, haul a dead evergreen out to the curb...and regain my composure.
