Well, the Thanksgiving-through-New Year's holiday marathon is over. All that's left is to un-decorate the house, haul a dead evergreen out to the curb...and regain my composure. While this year's festivities are still fresh on my mind, I resolve (again) to make next year's holidays more efficient and less stressful. Here are my resolutions:

Washington, D.C., ties with Seattle to lead the Wall Street Journal's new list of 10 cities that will be "the hottest, hippest destinations for highly mobile, educated workers in their twenties when the economy gets going again."
Drinks are on you, Arlingtonians! Money Magazine says you're living in the Number Two spot in the country for the "rich and single." (Hermosa Beach, Calif., was tops.) According to Money, almost 42 percent of Arlingtonians are single, and the 2008 median income was $108,815. (Btw, did you know you were rich?)
I have beach houses and vacations on the mind this week--probably because I'm not going to enjoy much of either this summer. It's just too busy with family responsibilities and other duties to carve out a week on the Delaware shore. But a little searching showed that rentals are still available, even around Independence Day.
I was thinking about the pre-departure routines we've developed around my house. So far, these steps--and a generous dollop of good luck--have kept the house safe when we temporarily abandoned it.
