2 struck by car, seriously hurt on Mall

A man and a woman were struck by a car and seriously injured late Saturday while on the Mall, authorities said.

The incident occured shortly before 10 p.m at 14th Street and Jefferson Drive SW, according to witnesses and officials.

The two pedestrians appeared to be in their 50s, said Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the D.C. fire and emergency medical services department.

The circumstances of the incident were not immediately clear late Saturday.
