4 students ill after smoking substance

By Terri Rupar

Four West Springfield High School students were sent to a hospital Thursday after they apparently became ill from smoking an unknown substance at school, Fairfax County officials said.

Rescue and hazmat crews responded to a call of four students possibly overdosing on an unknown substance about 10 a.m., said Capt. Willie Bailey, a fire department spokesman. Rescuers found four teen boys in the school clinic who were conscious and alert but suffering from an unknown illness.

The students were taken to Inova Fairfax hospital. Their conditions were not considered life-threatening, Bailey said.

The victims are two 17-year-olds, one 16-year-old and an 18-year-old, said Paul Regnier, a county school spokesman.

I've heard about that stuff. Legal and the effects are terribly frightening. Like, hallucinogenic, but I could be wrong about it being legal.

Not really. Not any less than high schoolers smoking pot in the back stairs or dropping acid back in the 60's and 70's. Big deal, youth will always experiment, sometimes fun results, sometimes scary results, life goes on.

could have been salvia, but i wouldn't say "probably." just as likely they had something someone sold them that was supposed to be whatever, but it was treated w/something else. for example, people think they're getting pcp, when pretty much it's no longer available as it was before the main ingredient was outlawed 25 years ago, and most bath tub chemists don't have the skills to make it. If they did they'd be making big money legitimately. and salvia is still legal, but i don't think it will be for long. It's avail on the internet, but very expensive, and the high is supposed to be of short duration.

Synthetic cannabis?

And we wonder what's wrong with this country. Everything is processed and made in a lab, nothing is natural anymore. Ridiculous. This is what's gonna happen when cannabis is legalized for medicinal use. It won't be in natural plant form. Wanna get high? Here! Take this pill!!!! Awful, soon we won't need an actual steak to enjoy a steak and get whatever nutrients we get from red meat, we'll just pop a pill and won't have to eat the rest of the day. I hate what this country makes money off of, quick, synthetic, cheaply made products, or the import/export of these cheaply made products, or the money our country makes off of advertising these synthetic products, or the money our country makes off of...the list is forever.

Rumors of spiked pot (often with pcp or crack) has been floating around several high schools lately. Would not suprise me if thats what it ended up being. Is this news worthy, not really. people have been experimenting with drugs for centuries (milenia actually), often getting it wrong in the process.

So in Fairfax they call it an unknown substance. In DC we call it PCP!!! I wonder did they strip naked? Funny how...,depending on where you live, the media seems to be more willing to call a turd "organic seasoning"...LMAO!!! IF it was SE DC the headline would have been :"Thugs attending Ballou High School went berzerk from smoking PCP" (See video clips of Police and ambulance escorting bucknaked teens to hospital detention). The world we live in...man o man!!!

It's possible that the kids picked up something when they were in Florida a few months ago.

And Bigfoot, you are right on. Kids are always going to experiment with something. Many of us kids of the 60's are now grandparents. We had our fun and then most of us settled down to a job and family.
