Pr. Geo's man charged with animal cruelty

By Washington Post editors

A Prince George’s County man faces animal cruelty charges for alleged shooting paintballs at ducks in Hagerstown’s City Park.

Eighteen-year-old Nathaniel Herring of Capitol Heights had his bail set at $7,000 Wednesday in a court hearing in Hagerstown.

Police allege Herring fired paintballs early on the morning of July 30 at several ducks as well as concession stand windows.

He is charged with inflicting unnecessary suffering or pain on an animal and trespassing.
Herring told the judge he has no criminal convictions but is facing assault charges filed by his mother.

I'm glad to see charges being filed in this case. It's important to take all forms of cruelty seriously. What he did is clearly against the law and should be punished.
