Va. school reopens after gun incident

By Washington Post Editors

Classes for middle and high school students in Blacksburg went back to their regular schedule a day after a 13-year-old brought two handguns and ammunition to school, the Associated Press reports.

Blacksburg police say the Blacksburg Middle School student was taken into custody after school officials found the weapons shortly before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. High school classes, which are being held at the middle school, were canceled while the building was searched for additional weapons.

It’s unclear if the student has been charged. A telephone message left for Blacksburg police on Wednesday wasn’t immediately returned.

Blacksburg High School classes were moved to Blacksburg Middle School after the roof of the high school’s gymnasium collapsed in February. Middle school classes end about 1:30 p.m., and high school classes run from 2 p.m. until 7:15 p.m.
