Proposed mine could risk Va. water
As if we don't have enough problems with drinking water in our region, a proposed uranium mine in Pittsylvania County could temporarily contaminate Virginia Beach's water supply if a hurricane or tropical storm causes massive flooding, according to a study released Tuesday.

Snowball fight tonight
The Capital Weather Gang is predicting a “snow thump” later tonight, with 4-8”+ of snowfall in D.C. and north and west suburbs. With those kind of predictions come sledding plans, pleas for days off from school, and… a giant snowball fight!! The Washington DC Snowball Fight Association, the group that was responsible for the 2000-strong flash mob snowball fight in Dupont Circle last February, has announced a massive snowball fight for 8 p.m. tonight in Dupont Circle.

Library of Congress hawk captured
The Cooper's hawk that took shelter in the Library of Congress Wednesday night has so far avoided capture by traps, bait or nets. She's eluded the Raptor Conservancy of Northern Virginia, the Humane Society, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. She's a plane, she's a bird, she's Jefferson the hawk!
