Change of venue for Betts' memorial
D.C. public school officials have announced a change of venue for the public memorial service to honor slain Shaw Middle School Principal Brian Betts.
The May 1 memorial will take place at Strathmore Music Center, 5301 Tuckerman Lane in North Bethesda. The service will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Police are still investigating the mysterious death of Betts, the principal at Shaw Middle School at Garnet-Patterson, who was found dead at his Silver Spring home April 15. He was buried in Manassas on Thursday, a day after 2,000 people had visited a funeral home to walk past his coffin and pay their respects to his sister and parents.
