Chinese, Asian population in D.C. region
In light of this week's state dinner for Chinese president Hu Jintao, we gathered some data on the Chinese population and total Asian population in the D.C. metropolitan area. The Asian community in the District has grown slowly but steadily since the Census first recorded a .2 percent share of the total D.C. population in 1900 to 2.7 percent in 2000.
Fairfax (city and county), Montgomery County and Loudoun County have the highest local population percentage of Asians, each over 10 percent, according to the 2005-2009 American Community Survey (ACS) five-year data. Montgomery is home to the most Chinese Americans regionally, with 3.8 percent.
