Va. man charged with illegal gun sales
A Front Royal man has been charged with illegally selling guns without a license and selling firearms to convicted felons at a flea market.
A federal grand jury in Harrisonburg indicted 64-year-old Don Francis Simonpietri on 10 counts. According to the U.S. attorney's office, Simonpietri faces up to 85 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
U.S. Magistrate Judge B. Waugh Crigler on Tuesday ordered Simonpietri detained until his scheduled Nov. 9 trial.
Along with the illegal sales charges, Simonpietri is accused of illegally possessing two machine guns and unregistered firearms, including a 61 mm mortar. The government is seeking forfeiture of 1,100 firearms.
