1 dead, 5 injured in D.C. crash
One woman was killed and five others were taken to hospitals late Wednesday night after a two-vehicle accident in Southeast near I-295, authorities said.
The crash happened about 10:45 p.m. on southbound South Capitol Street, in a stretch that runs parallel to I-295, between Firth Sterling and Malcom X avenues, said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman. One woman was dead at the scene, Carew said, and another person was reportedly in critical condition.
Another two people were taken to hospitals with serious and potentially life threatening injuries, said Pete Piringer, a D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman. Two people were taken to hospitals with less serious injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
