2nd arrest in College Park robbery
Prince George's County police have announced a second arrest in an Aug. 8 robbery in College Park, one of a string of recent street robberies near the University of Maryland campus that has led to increased police patrols and calls for students to be vigilant.
Andrew Hillocks, 21, turned himself in after his photo was shown on a WTTG (Fox 5) news broadcast, county police said in a news release late Monday. A warrant had been issued for his arrest, and he was taken into custody for questioning.
On Sept. 9, Prince George's county police arrested Chernor Alie Jah, 19, also in connection with the Aug. 8 robbery. The robbery took place in the 7200 block of Baltimore Avenue shortly after midnight. Police say three suspects approached the victims, and two of them displayed handguns and demanded money. The victims handed over money and property.
The most recent College Park robbery occurred early Sunday morning in the 7300 block of Baltimore Avenue, a block away from the Aug. 8 site. In that case, three people approached the victim from behind, assaulted him and took property.
Although none of the recent robberies occurred on the College Park campus, several have involved students, authorities said.
