Pr. Geo.'s 6th-grader dies

By Michael Birnbaum

A sixth-grade student at J. Frank Dent Elementary School in Fort Washington died Monday after she collapsed at school in the morning, school officials said.

Paramedics performed CPR on the girl, who was taken to a local hospital where she died.

An investigation is underway and authorities did not release her identity Monday.

A letter to Dent Elementary parents from acting principal Clara Yancey said the death did not result from any injury suffered at the school.

Counselors were at the school Monday and will be there again Tuesday.

WaPo - Please re-think this terrible, overly sensational headline. According to the article, the student COLLAPSED at her school & died at the hospital. Have a little compassion & sensitivity for this poor girl's family.

Yeah, she died at the hospital, not at school. The Post increasingly sucks. If you want good local news, go to TBD.com.

Which is it, did she pass away in school, or at the hospital? The article isn't clear, the headline and the story totally contradict each other.

WTF does corruption surrounding PGC have to do with her death? Why don't you collapse. You are an abyss of stupidity.

Posters are - mostly - not to blame for multiple identical postings. (Occasionally - not here - it's obvious the poster intended to make a splash with serial postings.)

Sometimes after a click on Submit it seems like nothing happens. The natural tendency is to click Submit again (and again and again) until it's clear the Post took the posting. (Sometimes too there is a repetition of the last character before a line break after the line break - looking like the poster accidentally typed the character twice.)

As a counselor in the PG elementary school system I am appalled at some of your reactions to the death of a child. However the student passed, there are families (school and relations) that are devastated at this turn of events. Some of you think you are witty and carefree with your offhand comments. No matter how the headline was written the meat of the matter is that there is one less child at school today and that is the sad but honest truth. Find a mirror and check thineself!

This is indeed a further example of the consequences of corruption in PG, if one more examples were needed. If it were not for corruption, there would be more nurses in the schools to deal with problems that crop up each day. If it were not for corruption, there would be better facilities to ensure our children are not injured in school. Why are these commenters here and in other parts of the WPO so complacent and tolerant about corruption in PG?

There is another desk in Heaven's elementary school. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God." This such a tragedy.

Actually,as awful as this little girl's death is, death can happen to young kids anywhere. I remember back in the mid 70's a 12 year old boy had a heat attack during a 4-H meeting at the 4-H leader's house. The doctors later found that he had a heart defect, but he had always seemed find so who would've guessed that his heart was diseased. It was pretty traumatic, especially for the younger kids.

She may have suffered an aneurysm, cardiac arrest, or even a stroke. Whatever caused her death, it's tragic when a child that young dies. God bless her family and friends, and may the little angel rest in peace.

Why does it matter whether she died at school or at the hospital? Either way, she has left behind family and friends that will grieve for her. The fact that she collapsed unexpectedly at school will be even more traumatic for her friends who will no doubt ponder their own mortality at the ripe old age of 11. Tragic no matter where it happened.

I'm appuald at the lack of sensitivity to the family, classmates, teachers and faculity of this poor child. "How many lines did her mom give her"!!! You IGNORANT, STUPID, SOB, how dare you!!!!! WTF is wrong with you!!!! A child is dead for God's sake and you make fun of it. Suppose it was your child? SMDH!!!!

Actually, I think the Post only lets you comment every three minutes, and the poster's posts are a minute apart, so I think it was an accident. Just sayin'.
