When I'm in pedestrian mode, every time I see a Metro bus approach - I make sure I get as far away from it as possible as quickly as possible. I don't want to take ANY chance - Metro's Bus accident record scares me.

I wouldn't be too quick to fault the bus driver. As an everyday Metro bus rider, I have seen cars regularly break driving rules when moving around metro buses. The most frequent one is turning right from a left lane directly in front of the bus because the car driver is too impatient to follow road rules and stay in the right hand lane and wait to turn after the bus has pulled away from the stop. I've seen many a near miss because of this and that type of accident is definitely not the bus driver's fault.
