Va. man gets 5 years in judge threat

An Alexandria man has been sentenced in federal court to 5 years in prison after he threatened the life of a South Carolina judge, authorities said.

Stephen Rosenberg, 61, was angered when a case he brought alleging he had been wrongfully incarcerated was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Perry, Jr., in 2003.

Rosenberg demanded the case be reinstated and began sending letters and emails to the judge that became increasingly combative, prosecutors said. In late 2008, he sent messages saying “the only good white judge is a dead white judge,” and that he needed to “to start killing off white judges,” authorities said.

Rosenberg, who is a graduate of West Point military academy and of law school, represented himself at trial.
