Arrest, murder charge in U Street shooting
D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier has announced an arrest in connection with the shooting and accident that occurred on a bustling U Street Tuesday afternoon around lunchtime.
Brandon Miller, 21, of the
2100 1200 block of Girard Street NW was arrested Tuesday night following the incident that left one man dead. The victim, Jamal Coates, was found dead in a wrecked Dodge Caliber along U Street.
Miller has been charged with first degree murder.
Police are searching for one other person, as well as any information on a 2001 white Buick with D.C. tags that may be connected to the incident.
The incident began at the funeral for Ashley McRae, 21, who was shot to death Sept. 18, allegedly by her boyfriend after an argument. But Lanier said she did not believe the shooting was related to McRae's death.
