Child in back of carjacked vehicle

By Erica Johnston

A 4-year-old child was in the back of a vehicle that was briefly car-jacked Wednesday night, Prince George's County police said.

The car was taken at a Shell gas station at Branch Avenue and Naylor road in the Oxon Hill area at about 9:18 p.m.

The vehicle was recovered 35 minutes later about a mile away along Southern Avenue, near 25th street, adjacent to Oxon Run Park, police said.

The child was asleep and unharmed in the back seat. No suspects were in custody.

WaPo,

Can you do an article about the number of carjackings in the city or even area and its trends? Over the last week or two i have been casually listening to a police scanner (old childhood pasttime)and I am totally shocked that within the span of listening for a few hours there have been two or more carjackings a day in DC proper...

I'm so happy the child was found unharmed. However, the person who left the child in the car needs to be seriously reprimanded. If such a program exists, they should be required to attend parenting classes for 2 weeks. This program would show what could have happened to the child. They'd never make that mistake again.

When one is CARJACKED they are snatched out of their car and there is usually a weapon involved. If the parent had WALKED away from the car, then it would have been reported as STOLEN. YOU clearly have been fortunate enough to not have had that happen to you.
