Colombian diplomat's home burgled
The ambassador of Colombia was awakened early Monday by a burglary at her official residence in a Dupont Circle mansion.
Two people were later arrested and charged in the incident, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, which protects foreign diplomatic missions in the United States.
The break-in occurred about 5 a.m. as Ambassador Carolina Barco was asleep in the residence, a historic structure dating to 1904.
She spotted an intruder and called 911. A Secret Service spokesman said the suspects were arrested near the residence about 6 a.m.
A laptop computer, apparently taken from the residence, was recovered.
The suspects were described by the Secret Service as a 52-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman.
There were no indications of any connection to terrorism or of any political motivations in the incident.
