D.C. records first 2010 homicide, suspect arrested

UPDATE: A 22-year-old Frederick man was killed Saturday night in Southeast Washington in the District's first homicide of 2010. Police made an arrest in the case just a few hours later.

Zachery J. Funke was stabbed multiple times at a residence in the 1700 block of Mississippi Ave. SE about 11 p.m., police said. He was pronounced dead shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Detectives quickly identified a suspect and arrested Terrance D. Brooks, 44, of Southeast Washington about 2:35 a.m. Sunday. Brooks has been charged with second-degree murder while armed.

Earlier post: D.C. recorded its first homicide of the year Saturday night when a D.C. man was stabbed to death in Southeast, police said.

The slaying occurred just after 11 p.m. in the 1700 block of Mississippi Ave SE, police said. Few other details were available Sunday morning, including the victim’s name and any information about suspects.
