3 alleged Md. Latin Kings indicted

Federal prosecutors say a superseding indictment has been returned against three alleged members of the Latin Kings gang, charging them with murder, arson and other offenses.

Twenty-five-year-old Remy Heath, 27-year-old Chinua Shepperdson and 25-year-old Brandon Smith were charged Wednesday in the superseding indictment. They had previously been charged with conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise.

Shepperdson is charged with arson in a July 24, 2007, firebombing in Langley Park. Smith is accused of using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence in a shooting on Jan. 17, 2009.

According to the indictment, Heath and Smith, created a hit list containing names of Latin Kings members in Maryland.
