Fire at Cheverly apartment building
Update, 10 p.m.:
Nearly 30 people were displaced from their homes tonight after a fire damaged 15 apartments in an apartment building in the Cheverly area.
Prince George's County fire department spokesman Mark Brady said 22 adults and five children will have to spend the night elsewhere. No residents were injured, but a firefighter who fell more than 12 feet from a ladder was taken to a hospital, where he was said to be in good condition.
The fire in the 6300 block of Landover Road started about 7:15 p.m., Brady said, and was extinguished within a half hour. Officials believe the blaze started in a second-floor kitchen and extended through a wall and the roof of the three-story building.
