Firefighter breaks leg in Silver Spring
A Montgomery County firefighter broke his leg Thursday night while hooking up a fire hose to fight an electrical fire in Silver Spring, officials said.
The firefighter got out of one of the first responding trucks called to a high-rise building in the 8600 block of 2nd Avenue about 7:30, said Capt. Oscar Garcia, a Montgomery County Fire Department spokesman. As the firefighter tried to hook a hose to a hydrant, he was entangled and broke his lower leg.
The firefighter was taken to a hospital. Firefighters quickly extinguished a small electrical fire on the 4th floor of the building and no one else was injured in the incident, Garcia said.
