Frostburg student indicted for murder
A grand jury has indicted a Frostburg State University student on first-degree murder and assault charges stemming from an off-campus confrontation last month.
Allegany County State's Attorney Michael Twigg says the panel returned the indictment Tuesday against 21-one-year-old Tyrone Hall of Glen Burnie.
Police say Hall claimed self-defense in the April 18 shotgun slaying of 20-year-old basketball player Brandon Carroll of Waldorf, and the wounding of 21-year-old Ellis Hartridge Jr. of Washington.
Hall told investigators the victims lunged at him after going to his off-campus apartment to discuss an alleged altercation early that night between Hall and a woman with whom Hartridge had had a stormy romance.
The indictment moves the case circuit court for trial.

This is an unfortunate situation. I passed the Maryland bar in 1984, and have followed "shoot on the door step" cases. In Maryland, the defendant generally does not do well unless the attackers appear to be armed.
