High winds down power lines in D.C.
High winds late Tuesday appear to have caused a house fire in Northwest Washington ater power lines fell, possibly sparking a power surge in the Palisades-area home, D.C. fire officials said.
The lines fell just after 10 p.m. in the 5500 block of Carolina Place, said Pete Piringer, a D.C. fire and emergency services spokesman. No injuries were reported in the blaze in the two-story house, but officials said the family would be displaced from the home.
The city’s fire department began receiving an uptick in calls for wind related incidents late Thursday night. Wires were also reported down near 16th Street and Kalmia Road NW, D.C. police and Piringer said.
