Man injured in fall on Metro escalator
A man was seriously injured in a Metro station Tuesday evening when he lost his balance on an escalator and fell, authorities said.
Metro spokesman Reggie Woodruff said there was no immediate indication that the operation of the escalator, at the Gallery Place station, had caused the incident.
The man suffered bumps and bruises consistent with a fall in the incident about 7 p.m., and was transported to a local hospital, said D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer.
The incident came as Metro is examining all of its escalators. An accident Oct. 30 at the L'Enfant Plaza station caused several injuries and was blamed on a brake problem.
