Man jumps from apt. after finding body

By Washington Post editors

Update, Friday, 10:45 a.m.

The decomposing body of a woman was found in a Southeast Washington apartment Thursday after D.C. police were called to the scene on a report of a man who fell from a third-floor window, authorities said.

The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, a D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman said. The man was said to be in his late teens or early 20s.

Police and fire department rescuers were called to the 4200 block of Fourth Street SE about 3:45 p.m., said Gwen Crump, a police spokeswoman.

Police had not identified the body and said it was unclear how long it had been there. The case is being investigated as a homicide, and police are awaiting the results of an autopsy, Crump said. Officials did not know whether there was connection between the man and the body.

A man leaped from the third-floor of a Southeast D.C. apartment Thursday after discovering a dead body inside, authorities said.

Few details were immediately available, but authorities responded to the 4200 block of 4th Street SE about 3:30 p.m, said Lt Nick Breul, a police spokesman. He did not know the age, gender and condition of the person who jumped. But a DC Fire/EMS spokesman said it was a male in his late teens or early 20s. He is still alive and being taken to a hospital, the spokesman said.

No details were released about the body inside, but police are classifying the case as a suspicious death, Bruel said.

Gee, the only thing I can think of that would make me so afraid of seeing a dead body in an apartment that I would leap out of a 3rd floor window as a result?

Would be if I knew the guy was killed by someone standing across the room with a gun. And I was next.

Maybe he was off PCP and thought the body was a ghost and decided to jump.

I've heard of a case like this from this neighbor of mine years ago who had been to prison for murder. He shot someone in a bedroom who he said was attacking his girlfriend at the time and the other guy who was also attacking her jumped out the window to avoid being shot. There was drug dealing involved. It is also possible that he himself killed the guy then jumped out to run away and is now saying he found the body so as to avoid admitting guilt. I'm sure drugs were probably involved.

I heard on the news this morning that it was actually the guy's mother who was dead and that her dead body had been in the apartment for some time. They were saying that the guy that jumped out of the window was her son who happens to be mentally challenged. The dead woman also had another son who they said lived at the apartment, but the police are unable to locate. They also said that police were unsure if the sons had been living in the apartment with the dead body knowingly.
