Man says he shot ex-girlfriend and her lover
An Annapolis man has pleaded guilty to killing his former girlfriend and her lover after he heard them in bed in a room above him last year.
Fifty-seven-year-old Elbert Gardner Jr. admitted he shot Lei Johnson and Samuel Fowlkes after police told him he failed a lie-detector test. He told police he “just snapped” when he heard what he believed was sexual activity between the pair.
Gardner pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of first-degree murder. He also pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment for trying to smother Johnson's 12-year-old son. Prosecutors plan to seek two consecutive life terms when he's sentenced March 19.
Gardner's lawyer says her client had split up with Johnson but allowed her and her son to continue living in his house while he stayed in the basement.
