Slippery roads, flight delays

By Katherine Shaver

As of 12:30 p.m., many major roads in Montgomery County were slow and slippery.

Vehicles slipped and slid making turns or trying to gain traction going uphill.

Southbound Interstate 270 was backed up near Falls Road in Rockville, while northbound traffic traveled about 35 mph. A trip between Bethesda and Rockville that usually takes 20 minutes at midday took 40 minutes.

Dr. Gridlock also reported flight delays at several area airports. Airport officials are warning fliers to expect delays today as crews deal with the snow moving through the region.

At Reagan National Airport, officials said a runway was temporarily closed so crews could clear snow. However, officials said the airport is open and operational. The FAA was reporting delays of up to 50 minutes for some flights arriving at National. Operations at Dulles and Baltimore-Washington International Marshall airports were normal.

For more details on airport delays, check Dr. Gridlock's blog.
