Md. man sentenced for Nigeria gun traffic

By Associated Press

GREENBELT — A federal judge has sentenced a Laurel man to more than three years in prison for shipping guns and ammunition to Nigeria.

Fifty-year-old Emenike Nwankwoala (e-MEN-key wank-woh-AL-a), a former state probation officer, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt.

Prosecutors say Nwankwoala told an undercover agent from Immigration and Customs Enforcement that he had been buying shotguns and shipping them to Nigeria for the past decade, turning a large profit. Nwankwoala told the agent that he hid the guns in shipping containers with vehicles.
