MoCo cops shoot suspect
A Montgomery County Police officer shot and wounded a bank robbery suspect in Damascus Tuesday morning after the suspect led police on a car chase, then engaged in "some sort of confrontation" with them, authorities said.
The incident started around 10:40 a.m., when officers were called to a PNC bank in the 26000 block of Ridge Road in the Damascus area for a reported bank robbery, said Cpl. Dan Friz, a Montgomery County Police spokesman. They spotted the suspect in the area, Friz said, and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The pursuit ended in the 26000 block of Bowman Acres Lane in Damascus, Friz said. There, he said, "there was some sort of confrontation where an officer fired his service weapon at the suspect and he struck him." The suspect was flown to an area hospital, Friz said.
Friz said another PNC bank on Middlebrook Road in the Germantown area was robbed about 9:20 a.m., and investigators were exploring whether the same suspect might have been involved in that robbery.
