Mont. Co. to scrutinize crossing guard pay

At $40 per hour -- are crossing guards in Montgomery County overpaid?

While at least one country council member doesn't believe the amount is outrageous given the cost of living in the county, council members will be re-examining how much crossing guards as well as other county employee earn. It's part of an effort to reduce costs at at time when the county faces a significant deficit, WTOP reports.

Nationally, Montgomery County's $26,000 per year for a crossing guard is within the average. Two job search engines examined by WTOP put the average pay for crossing guards between $20,000 and $31,000 per year.
