Police say man made up attack story

By Washington Post editors

Montgomery County police say the man who told police he had been thrown from a Wheaton parking garage made up the story, Fox 5 reports.

The man told police he was walking across a parking lot at the Westfield Wheaton shopping mall Thursday afternoon when he was accosted by two men. He said they forced him into a parking deck near the Wheaton Metro station, dragged him up five ramps, beat him, took his wallet and forced him off the structure. He was found in a mulched area with an injured back and ankle.

Police now say that story was untrue and that his injuries were most likely self-inflicted.
