Suspended sentence in cult death

By Washington Post editors

A woman who starved her 1-year-old son to death at the behest of a religious cult leader has been given a suspended sentence and probation.

Ria Ramkissoon pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in the death of her son, Javon Thompson.

The plea agreement contained an extraordinary provision: If Javon is resurrected, the plea will be withdrawn.

Cult leader Queen Antoinette told followers not to feed Javon when he did not say “Amen” during a mealtime prayer. Antoinette, her daughter and another man were convicted of second-degree murder.

Ramkissoon, who has been in jail since her 2008 arrest, was given five years probation on Wednesday and must complete the program at a residential treatment facility.

Assistant State’s Attorney Julie Drake called the sentence compassionate but fair. She says the state sees Ramkissoon as a victim.

Sentencing set in cult death

A woman who starved her 1-year-old son to death at the behest of a religious cult leader is set to be sentenced in Baltimore Wednesday.

Ria Ramkissoon pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in the death of her son, Javon Thompson.

The plea agreement contained an extraordinary provision: If Javon is resurrected, the plea will be withdrawn.

Cult leader Queen Antoinette told her followers not to feed Javon when he did not say “Amen” before a meal. After he died, she told them to pray for his resurrection. Ramkissoon said she still believes Javon will come back to life when she testified against Antoinette, the cult leader’s daughter and another man. All three were convicted of second-degree murder.

Ramkissoon has been in jail since her arrest in 2008 and is not expected to get more jail time at sentencing Wednesday.

Disgusting. The extraordinary provision is also disgusting. Why isn't Queen Antoinette should be up on charges. What a crock this whole thing is.

"...the state sees Ramkissoon as a victim."
=====================================
She starves her son to death and the state says SHE is the victim. That's even more stupid than the "extraordinary provision" some ho calling herself Queen Antoinette.

This is wrong. The boy is the victim. The mother deserves to die the same way, through starvation.

It is amazing what you can do in this country if you have a vagina. Those with vaginas are responsible for the overwhelming number of homicides involving children and I can see why, they will not be prosecuted. I do believe that Bin Laden is right about this country, we are a country of perverts.

She's no different than Pia Yates (from Houston). Why isn't there more outrage? She's just following the Bible (Genesis 22:1-18, Judges 11:29-40, Exodus 21:15-17 “And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death”) Terms of her probation include Bible study. How is going to be helpful?
