Sex offender arrested in Anne Arundel

By Washington Post editors

This post has been updated.

A registered sex offender used a social networking Web site to lure four young girls to an Annapolis home this week, and then raped one of them, Anne Arundel County police said.

Police say James Mason III, 28, struck up a conversation with a young girl on MySpace about a month ago.

Late Wednesday, police say, he drove to the Dundalk area of Baltimore County, picked up the girl along with three others, all between ages 13 and 15, and drove them to the residence on St. Margarets Drive. The home belonged to an acquaintance, police said.

Mason offered the girls alcohol, police said, and at some point drove one of the girls, age 13, to a store to buy food. While parked outside, police said, the pair had sex in the car. The sex acts were repeated when they got back to the home, police said.

Police were alerted to the incident when one of the girls grew uneasy during the night and sent text messages to a family member. The relative called police, who responded to the home about 3:30 a.m. and arrested Mason.

Mason was charged with second degree rape and related charges. He is being held on $950,000 bond. Details of Mason’s earlier offense weren’t immediately available.

I am all for a privately funded NGO which erradicates this type of scurge from society. The recidivism rate with sex offenders is high and they're statistically proven not to be cureable.

Why waste taxpayer's money in incarcerating and caring for this type of person, when a simple bullet will suffice?

13 is 13!!! Which part of that is unclear?

In any event, be careful. Some are undercover cops. Ever watch "Dateline"?
