Suspicious object near White House
UPDATE (1:55 p.m.): Officials have concluded there is no hazard and are giving the all clear, according to a tweet from D.C. Fire and EMS.
ORIGINAL POST: Washington police and fire spokesmen say they are investigating a suspicious object in a park near the White House.
Officer Paul Metcalf says police and the Secret Service are investigating the object found Sunday in Lafayette Park, but did not have any other description of the object or why it was deemed suspicious. Fire Spokesman Pete Piringer said fire personnel were assisting, but also did not have a description of the object.
Metcalf said the object was reported about 12:40 p.m.
