D.C. man convicted of stabbing woman

By Washington Post Editors

Rashaun I. Gee, 24, of Northeast Washington, was convicted Friday of stabbing a 23-year-old woman 17 times after breaking into her Southeast home as she slept, the U.S. attorney for the District said in announcing the verdict rendered by a D.C. Superior Court jury.

Gee, of the 100 block of 15th Street NE, also attempted to sexually assault the woman in the attack on Oct. 7, 2008. He broke through a kitchen window of a home in the 500 block of 14th Street SE just after midnight, according to a news statement on the case.

Gee stabbed the victim in the stomach and chest as she was on her cellphone to 911, trial testimony showed. She fought Gee off as he stabbed her in the back and chased her through the house before fleeing, prosecutors said. Gee was identified through fingerprints in the kitchen and DNA from a bloody shirt left near the scene, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Gee is scheduled to be sentenced in November for first-degree burglary while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, aggravated assault while armed, malicious disfigurement while armed and attempted first-degree sexual abuse while armed, with aggravating circumstances.

This is nothing, if not a 25 to life if ever I've read of one. This was intent to kill. I bet he's out in less than 10 yrs..and I don't want to hear about his poor upbringing, the beatings his mother gave or didn't give. I really don't care. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO NOW!!!-YOU ARE NOT A CHILD ANYMORE. OK, judge take him in your neighborhood to live after he's out....

Life in prison seems reasonable.

Rashaun will get a slap on the wrist, then lots of welfare then free healthcare then free housing then free food stamps then free social security then more free healthcare. All at the expense of hardworking people who actually contribute to society.

Fortunately, it wasn't a first degree murder case. Despite being stabbed 17 times, the victim survived and testified at trial, as did the doctor who performed emergency surgery on her shortly after the stabbing. The victim had many wonderful neighbors who rushed to her aid after hearing her screams, and two of them testified at trial, as well. MPD Officer Robert Johnson found a shirt in a nearby trash can with the victim's blood, and Gee's DNA, on it. Officer Johnson's work provided the critical link between Gee and the victim.
