D.C. officer charged with sexual assault
Federal prosecutors have charged a decorated D.C. police lieutenant with sexual assault after accusations that he groped another police officer in 2008, The Examiner reports.
Burley Sanders, 46, appear in Superior Court Wednesday, where he pleaded innocent to the misdemeanor count, according to a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's office. Sanders was arrested early Wednesday and charged with a June 27, 2008 attack on a D.C. police sergeant, according to Channing Phillips, of the U.S. Attorney's office.
Burley could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Sanders has been singled out for meritorious service during his police career. In April, 2008, he was one of several given an award for helping to solve a burglary in the Trinidad neighborhood.
