Two men were shot and critically wounded Wednesday in a market in the wholesale district of Northeast Washington, D.C. police said.
Police were called to a store in the 1300 block of Fifth Street NE about 3 p.m., said officer Paul Metcalf, a police spokesman.
Few details were immediately available. A police source said investigators were trying to determine whether the shootings occurred during a robbery.
Police were searching for a silver car that left the area. The store is just north of Florida Avenue, where wholesale vendors sell produce and merchandise to many corner markets across the city.
