Bike helmet share? D.C. area blogs

By Washington Post editors

Good afternoon. What a news day, eh? Chilean miners, Michelle Rhee's departure and Adrian Fenty possibly headed back to college. I can't get enough of that miner story (folks even gathered at the Chilean Embassy on Mass Avenue last night), but if you're looking for a break from the wall-to-wall coverage, you've come to the right blog. D.C.'s bloggers are buzzing about all kinds of things, including equal billing for neighborhoods on Metro maps as well as the issue of helmet-less Capital Bikeshare riders. Read on.

Are some neighborhoods more important than others? Park View, D.C. thinks Metro needs to do a better job of labeling neighborhoods on its station maps. Locals may know their way around, but for visitors – the more information the better.

Life in the Village offers her impressions of Vincent Gray’s Town Hall meeting in Ward 7.

Colors! Animal prints! Once D.C.’s bag law went into effect, it was only a matter of time until reusable bags became a fashion statement. Metrocurean discusses our newest fashion trend and has snapshots of some of the more fashionable bag selections

From Prince of Petworth – a caption contest just too good to pass up. Frankly, I think the accessories are a little overdone.

With Capital Bikeshare stations popping up all over the city (and across the river in Virginia), some bloggers have raised concerns that while a growing number of folks would be riding bikes, more might be riding sans helmet. But how to solve the problem is a thorny issue. The alert folks at the Wash Cycle offer this intriguing tidbit: In Melbourne, officials are providing low-cost helmets for folks to purchase.

That's it for now. Thanks much for reading and have a great rest of the day. Have a comment or a local blog you're like to share or recommend to me and other Buzz readers? Just post below or send me an e-mail - While I love reading my *regular* blogs, I'm always on the hunt for new ones.
