Two men arrested in Betts murder

By Washington Post editors

UPDATE:
Two men have been arrested and charged in the slaying of D.C. principal Brian Betts, a law enforcement source close to the investigation said, Crime Scene reports.

Both suspects are in their late teens or early 20s and authorities know of no obvious connection to Betts before the day of the slaying, the source said.

The arrests came after authorities on Monday morning charged a 46-year-old District woman with using Betts's credit card. One of those charged in the killing is the woman's son, the source said.

Montgomery County police arrested a District woman Monday morning in connection with the killing of school principal Brian Betts, a police spokeswoman said, and have served two search warrants at residences in separate parts of Washington, Crime Scene reports.

The woman in police custody is 46-years-old and is not specifically charged with the slaying of Betts, Montgomery police spokeswoman Lucille Baur said.

But the woman is charged with counts "related to the Betts investigation," Baur said, though she declined to provide details. The woman's name was not released.

Betts was found shot to death in his home in Silver Spring on April 15. He was the principal of Shaw Middle School at Garnet-Patterson in the District.

I have no doubt that when we get to the bottom of this, it will be George Bush's fault.

Nah, George Bush was always pushing education. It's gonna turn out to be part of the power play between Rhee & the teachers' union.

I hope this arrest leads to finding the killer. From the way the story is written, police don't think she is the killer but can lead police to the culprit. Make sure you dot all your eyes and cross all your tees. You don't want the guilty party to be released because of a mistake.

According to CNN the woman arrested was using Betts' credit cards.
