Blaze breaks out in D.C. rowhouse

By Eric Athas

A fire that broke out early Sunday in a rowhouse on Columbia Road NW near Howard University and the Washington Hospital Center appeared to be suspicious, a D.C. fire department spokesman said.

The fire broke out in the basement of the house in the 500 block and sent heavy smoke throughout the three story structure, said

He said no cause was known, but the matter remained under investigation. No injuries were reported. Two people were displaced, Piringer said.

The house is just north of the Howard campus and the McMillan Reservoir, and west of the hospital center grounds.
