Brickskeller's new owners reveal plans

By The Associated Press

The new owners of the Brickskeller saloon, known beyond Washington for its huge beer menu, plan to restore the bar’s original look. But the name will have to go.

Megan Merrifield tells WTOP Radio that she and her husband are buying the property. When they take over later this month, its name will change to “Rock Creek.” Merrifield says they want to keep the bar’s regular customers coming back. The bar may get new hardwood floors and upgrades in the bathrooms. Other than that, Merrifield says they don’t intend to change much.

The Brickskeller is slated to close Dec. 23. Merrifield says she hopes to reopen the bar Dec. 26.

The Brickskeller has been open since 1957 and has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for its selection of about 1,200 beers.
