Cheeburger Cheeburger has taken top honors in a WTOP poll on best burger joints in the D.C. area, the news station reports.

Fans of the restaurant, a '50s-style chain with locations in Virginia and Maryland, raved about its 100 percent Angus beef burgers.

"I like that every burger is made to order and fresh," Daniel Nelson, of Rockville, told WTOP. "You have to wait a little longer, but it's worth the wait."

Five Guys took the No. 2 spot, followed by Burger Boys, the station said. More than 4,200 D.C. area residents cast votes.

The poll breakdown:

-- Cheeburger Cheeburger - 44 percent
-- Five Guys Burgers and Fries - 22 percent
-- Burger Boys - 8 percent
-- Foster's Grille - 8 percent
-- Ray's Hell Burger - 4 percent
-- Fuddrucker's - 3 percent
-- Red Robin - 3 percent
-- BGR: The Burger Joint - 2 percent
-- Olney Ale House - 2 percent
-- Elevation Burger - 1 percent

There are two generations that have no clue where "Cheeseburger Cheeseburger" comes from. The pharse, not the store.

The actual phrase is "Cheeburger cheeburger" with the "se" dropped. And yes, I'm old enough to remember where the phrase originated.
