D.C. CFO ready to certify teachers' contract
D.C. chief financial officer Natwar M. Gandhi is said to be ready to certify teachers' contract as fiscally sound, according to reporter Bill Turque.
D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee and the Washington Teachers' Union announced in April that they had reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, ending more than two years of closely watched and often-rancorous negotiations. But Gandhi subsequently announced that there was not enough of a surplus in the school system's budget to cover raises promised in the contract.
