D.C. police investigating death of child
The 6-year-old girl who died Wednesday after being pulled from a pool at the Turkey Thicket Recreation Center in Northeast Washington has been identified as Yiana-Michelle Ballard, police said.
Fire and rescue officials were called to the center, at 1100 Michigan Ave., at 2:19 p.m. for a report of an unconscious child in a pool. She was taken to Children's National Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
D.C. police were investigating the circumstances of the drowning. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause and manner of death.
