D.C. woman stares down bulldozer
Mary Case stared down a bulldozer to save a tree in Southeast Washington -- and won, WTOP reports.
D.C. officials and area residents near Watkins Field have been at odds about changing the park at 13th and E streets in Southeast. Plans to place new Astroturf on the field were approved, so the old trees in the park had to be removed.
Case took a stand in front of the lone tree left standing. The bulldozers backed down and a meeting was scheduled Monday night to discuss the situation further.
